Scottie Scheffler's Dominant Start: 20th PGA TOUR Win and a Historic Achievement (2026)

Scottie Scheffler kicked off his new season in a spectacular fashion, showcasing no sign of slowing down. With an impressive performance that included four birdies over just six holes, he surged ahead of the competition at The American Express, ultimately finishing with a remarkable score of 6-under 66 for a decisive four-shot victory.

This win marks Scheffler's 20th triumph on the PGA TOUR, a feat he has achieved within just four years, earning him a coveted lifetime membership. Notably, his prowess is underscored by the fact that nine of these victories came with margins of four strokes or more, highlighting his dominance in professional golf.

Before reaching the age of 30, Scheffler has already accumulated 20 wins, including four major championships. Only two other golfing legends, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods, have managed to achieve such an impressive milestone at this stage in their careers. "It’s pretty wild," Scheffler reflected in a post-match interview. "It’s been an amazing start to my career, and I try not to dwell on it too much. My focus is on being prepared and doing what I need to do."

During the tournament, Scheffler shared the spotlight with 18-year-old Blades Brown, who recently graduated high school and had just participated in a Korn Ferry Tour event in the Bahamas. Making history as the first player to compete in eight consecutive days of PGA TOUR-sanctioned events, Brown was aiming to become the youngest PGA TOUR winner in 95 years. However, the pressure of the moment may have caught up with him; despite starting strong as the 54-hole leader alongside Si Woo Kim, he quickly fell behind.

On the par-3 fourth hole at the Stadium Course in PGA WEST, Brown entered the tee just one shot ahead of Scheffler but soon found himself five shots back after a series of struggles. Scheffler executed a near-perfect baby 8-iron shot to land just 2 feet from the hole for a birdie on the fourth, while Brown faced difficulties, including a double bogey after his tee shot landed in the water.

Struggling to find his rhythm, Brown went 11 holes without scoring a birdie before finishing with a score of 74, dropping from a tie for second to a tie for 18th place, which unfortunately cost him a spot in the upcoming Farmers Insurance Open. Reflecting on his experience, Brown said, "It sounds like a lot to play eight rounds, but honestly, I had so much fun. Playing in a PGA TOUR event alongside Scottie Scheffler and witnessing his win was incredible. I’ve got some areas to improve on, and I hope to emulate what Scottie has accomplished."

Jason Day also delivered an outstanding performance, finishing strongly with a score of 64, which elevated him 18 spots up the leaderboard to secure a runner-up position. He was joined by Ryan Gerard (65), Matt McCarty (68), and Andrew Putnam (68).

Si Woo Kim, who frequently practices with Scheffler at Royal Oaks in Dallas, encountered difficulties during the tournament as well. On the par-5 eighth hole, he faced challenges while trying to escape from a greenside bunker, resulting in a double bogey. Despite this setback, he managed to recover, shooting three birdies on the back nine to finish with a score of 72, tying for sixth place.

Throughout the competition, Scheffler maintained his composure and continued to push forward. His only significant error occurred when he hit his tee shot into the water on the par-3 17th hole, known as "Alcatraz." Fortunately, he had built enough of a lead by then, and even with a double bogey, he secured his victory against a notably strong field at The American Express, which has seen a resurgence in competitive quality over recent years.

Scheffler is now taking a brief respite before heading into a busy stretch on the West Coast, which includes three consecutive events, starting with the WM Phoenix Open—the site of his first PGA TOUR victory four years ago. Since then, his performances have shown a remarkable upward trajectory.
