Miss World 2025 and Miss World Malaysia 2025 Spread Nature's Love in Sabah
KOTA KINABALU: Beauty and nature are not gifts that come without effort or care. This is the message that two beauty queens, Miss World 2025, Opal Suchata, and Miss World Malaysia 2025, Taanusitya Chetty, aim to convey during their week-long visit to Sabah.
Taanusitya Chetty emphasized that the beauty of nature, from breathtaking sunsets to vibrant flowers and pristine environments, is a result of dedicated care and hard work. She shared her awe of Sabah's unique sunsets, feeling blessed to witness such natural splendor.
However, she also highlighted the importance of human intervention in maintaining these natural wonders. Without proper care, the beauty of nature could fade.
Chetty suggested that educating and encouraging children to nurture nature from an early age is key. Planting trees or flowers can teach them the value of care and stewardship, leading to the growth of plants that attract other beautiful creatures, like butterflies or, in her case, the Rajah Brooke, her favorite species.
Opal Suchata, from Phuket, Thailand, noted the similarities between Sabah and Phuket, including their stunning natural beauty and pleasant weather. She emphasized that caring for heritage and nature requires a collective effort, a 'village' of people working together.
"Let's be remembered not by what we take from the world but by how we nurture and preserve it, leaving a legacy for future generations," she said.
The tree-planting ceremony, held at the Atkinson Clock Tower, one of the oldest landmarks in Kota Kinabalu, held deeper significance. Mayor Datuk Seri Dr. Sabin Samitah explained that this year's event continued last year's Miss World program, symbolizing hope and renewal through tree planting.
"By nurturing what we've planted, we honor the past and shape a future that respects identity, memory, and continuity," he said, emphasizing the long-term commitment to environmental care.
