With a questionable quarterback situation and a need for more offensive firepower, Reich has his work cut out for him. He's one of three finalists for the job, beating out other experienced coaches like Greg Roman and Darrell Bevell.
"Frank brings a unique blend of expertise and calmness under pressure," said Aaron Glenn, the Jets' head coach. "He's lived and breathed this game, both as a player and a coach. His ability to adapt and utilize player strengths is exactly what we need."
Glenn's decision to bring in a veteran like Reich is a strategic move. Originally, the plan was to keep Engstrand but remove his play-calling duties. However, Engstrand opted to leave and join the Atlanta Falcons.
Reich, 64, has a wealth of experience as a two-time head coach with the Colts and Panthers. He's currently a senior advisor at Stanford, where he also served as interim head coach in 2025.
His coaching resume is impressive: five seasons with the Colts, two playoff appearances, and a Super Bowl win with the Eagles in 2017. He also had a stint as offensive coordinator for the Chargers.
The Jets' decision to hire Reich is a controversial one. Some may question whether he's the right fit for the team's offensive struggles. But with his experience and track record, Reich is certainly a force to be reckoned with.
